The family and friends of Andries Johannes Hendrick Janse van Rensburg, “Andre” sadly report that the popular CCIM Leader and Instructor passed away from cancer on December 17, 2015 in Houston, Texas. He was 55.
Mr. van Rensburg held numerous designations including the prestigious Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation, Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) designation, Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS) designation.
He was also the 2010 President for the Florida CCIM Chapter North District and served in numerous capacities in the CCIM Institute. Mr. van Rensburg taught various real estate courses and delivered presentations about various aspects of commercial real estate all over the world. He was a senior instructor for the CCIM Institute and Realtor’s Land Institute. He was awarded the 2009 Rising Star Instructor’s award by the CCIM Institute, the 2012 CCIM Instructor of the Year – Introduction to Commercial Real Estate, been awarded the 2009, 2010 and 2012 Realtor’s Land Institute Instructor of the Year awards.
Andre J. van Rensburg CCIM, ALC, CIPS, was born in Pretoria, South Africa and resided in the United States since 1999. He was a citizen of the United States of America.
Mr. van Rensburg entered the real estate profession in 1985 after
practicing law for a few years. He in 1989 became the CEO and majority shareholder in Steer Commercial Realty (Pty) Ltd. – a Cape Town based company which was formed in 1879, the oldest privately owned real estate Company in South Africa. In that period Steer & Co. operated approximately 35 offices throughout the Western Cape Region. Mr. van Rensburg had been a court appointed appraiser since 1992. He was a founding member of the Timeshare Institute of South Africa, a member of The South African Property Owners Association. (SAPOA)
Mr. van Rensburg founded Steer Commercial Realty in Saint Augustine, Florida USA in 2000. His career highlights have included, development, redevelopment, construction, and management of various office, hospitality and retail centers in various parts of the world including the Park Avenue Hotel – Cape Town, Club Mykonos Resort, Langebaan – South Africa, Old Tree of Life Redevelopment in Saint Augustine, Florida and Pinnacle Office Suites, Saint Augustine Florida amongst others.
In 2009, Steer Commercial Realty and Prudential Network Realty formed a joint venture relationship to establish Prudential Commercial Real Estate serving the North East Florida market based in Jacksonville, Florida.
Mr. van Rensburg taught various real estate courses and delivered presentations about various aspects of commercial real estate including hospitality industry in various parts of the world including South Africa and the USA. He taught commercial real estate practices to aspiring new commercial real estate practitioners at the Cape Town Institute of Estate Agents in the period 1993 through 1998. Mr. van Rensburg was a national instructor for the Realtor’s Land Institute and a member of the RLI national education task force. He acted as a guest lecturer at Flagler University in Saint Augustine, Florida and taught classes for various Boards of Realtors on aspects including ethics in real estate, land investment analysis and site selection. He held webinars on various aspects involving commercial real estate.
Mr. van Rensburg held a law degree and a post – graduate qualification in Real Estate Development from the University of Cape Town, Graduate School of Business as well as a Diploma in Business Management and a National Diploma in Auctioneering from South African Auctioneers College.
He enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, snow skiing, hiking, and photography. He was a man of deep faith.
He is survived by his wife Deirdre, children: Shaun, Ryan, Andersen, Jack, and Olivia, and siblings Chantal, Elitia, Tanya, and Kobus.
A Memorial Service will be held on 4 PM Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Anastasia Baptist Church, 1650 A1A South, St. Augustine, FL. The family will receive friends from 3 – 4 PM prior to the service.
North District President for 2015 Linda Daniels, CCIM, shared the following thoughts with Florida CCIM Chapter members: “We’ll all remember Andre for his many fine attributes, including a legacy as an instructor of CCIM courses, a motivational speaker, several web based training programs, and a mentor to many commercial real estate professionals. But, what I will remember most is his faith in God, devotion and love of his family, and a good friend. We are all truly blessed that Andre touched our lives, even if for such a short period of time. As you think about Christmas and the holidays, please keep Andre’s family and loved ones in mind, for none of us can really understand how heavy their hearts must be at their loss.”
